MoMA Acquires 6 More Video Games and 1 Gaming Console for Architecture and Design Collection

The Museum of Modern Art has acquired a selection of 6 more video games and 1 gaming console for the Architecture and Design collection. These include works from the early pioneers Atari, Taito, and Ralph Baer, and from the comparatively young Mojang.

The new additions are: Magnavox Odyssey (1972), Pong (1972), Space Invaders (1978), Asteroids (1979), Tempest (1981), Yar’s Revenge (1982), and Minecraft (2011).

The games were selected using the same criteria that were used to select the initial 14 video games that were added to MoMA’s permanent collection in November, 2012. More information on those video games and the selection criteria can be found in here.
