Call to Action. A letter from Jeremy Mikolajczak Executive Director + Chief Curator (MOA+D)
Dear Museum Members + Friends,
During the summer of 2014, the Miami Dade College Museum of Art +Design (MOA+D) established a set of 2015 goals at our annual strategic planning retreat. The five distinctive goals included: increase attendance, expand support of exhibitions and programs, collaborate with new partners, increase our education outreach, and define the “design” component of the Museum. We can honestly say that since then, great strides have been made in accomplishing these goals.
The last two goals were the most important for 2015. We have greatly expanded our educational programs with GOGO MOA+D! and increased our support of public tours and partnerships with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. We also established our first arts education lab, providing arts education classes to local home-schooled children.
On Dec. 18, Manita Brug-Chmielenska wrote a “Letter to the Editor” in the Miami Herald. She called upon local institutions, including MOA+D, to support design initiatives, in hopes of forming “a deeper cultural appreciation of design and craft in and of the South Florida community.” The Museum took this fantastic letter as a “call to action.”
In addition to accelerating future design-based programming for the coming seasons, on Feb. 21, the Museum will host its first BAZAAR BAR. The one-day event will serve as a curated platform for innovative local “makers” to sell their works, provide community engagement and expose their creative genius.
February is an exciting month at the Museum. We open five new exhibitions, will host a series of community events and educational opportunities, and inaugurate our first Director’s Preview. The new Preview will offer our Museum Members a special opportunity to view our exhibitions prior to the public.
If you are not a member, I do hope you will consider becoming a part of our family and join one of the best-kept secrets in Downtown Miami. To become a member, please click here.
We look forward to seeing you at the Museum.
