MDC Campus Galleries of Art + Design to Present Donna Haynes: Textual Connections
First of the Series of Contemporary Art Projects USA exhibitions
Miami, August 24, 2015 – The Miami Dade College (MDC) Campus Galleries of Art + Design present the exhibition, Donna Haynes: Textual Connections, with an opening reception at 6 p.m., Sept. 10, at the West Campus Centre Gallery.
A special student opening will be held at Noon Sept. 16. The exhibition will be on view through November 13.
This exhibition is the first in a series by contemporary artists at the MDC West gallery. All artists are represented by Contemporary Art Projects USA, which is dedicated to nurturing new contemporary art by providing exhibition opportunities and resources for emerging and established artists and curators. Under executive director Tata Fernandez, its mission is to promote art appreciation within the international community, inspire and assist with the process of art collection, and to generate resources that support artists’ creative endeavors.
Haynes, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, views her art as an avenue to tell stories and hopefully to reach her audience in a new way. Her artwork begins with an idea that grows to sketches and then often to large scale drawings that bring her vision to life.
“Meeting others and hearing their stories is why I believe we are here,” Haynes said. “We are here to meet, interact, make friends, love and record a lineage. My artwork is an extension of this idea. Each piece records a point in time, a conversation, a story passed down from generation to generation.
Haynes is the recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA grant. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. She currently has a studio in the downtown Fort Lauderdale FAT Village Artist Community. Her focus is in the areas of drawing, installation, and sculpture.
Contemporary Art Projects is planning evening openings and special projects. The purpose is to reignite students, the community of the city of Doral and MDC West. The evening receptions are sponsored by magazines Avior and Conexiones Internacional, as well as Arte Mundo Latino TV.
“As a major convener of the arts and culture in the city of Doral, it is with great pride that MDC-West presents this exhibitions series for the enrichment of our students and members of the community,” said Dr. Malou C. Harrison, President of MDC North Campus and MDC-West.
